Will Dems Have To Swallow A Bitter Pill On Tax Cuts?
J.J. Jackson | June 18, 2009
Liberal Democrats hate some things so much that when you even speak of them they recoil like a vampire from garlic. One of those things is tax cuts. And not just tax cuts but across the board tax cuts for everyone. Sure, they can be swayed to support some “targeted” (and by targeted that means not for you) tax cuts that they can use to buy votes. They’ve used that tactic for years to get voters to pull the lever for them.
But the American people might push them to swallow a bitter pill and pass across the board tax cuts if a new Rasmussen poll is any indication:
Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans favor an across-the-board tax cut for all Americans to stimulate the U.S. economy, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
Thirty-four percent (34%) oppose such a tax cut, and 15% are undecided.
The bigger problem is that 59% of voters that are either Republicans or unaffiliated also favor this. And with support for the Democratic Party waining these days, that is no small problem.
Obama also has another image problem to deal with based on this poll:
During Election 2008, then-candidate Obama promised to cut taxes for 95% of all Americans. So far, just 26% of adults believe President Obama has delivered on that promise. Forty-three percent (43%) say he has not and 31% are not sure.
Until those numbers flip, there is no way Obama can claim success on this campaign promise, that much is for sure and people heading to the polls with this attitude next year may not be very happy campers.
