SEATTLE MAYOR WILL TAKE ANTI-GUN AGENDA TO WHITE HOUSE, SAYS CCRKBA
BELLEVUE, WA – Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, newly-elected president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, will be using his new position to push an anti-gun agenda at a White House meeting planned later this summer, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms warned today.
“Greg Nickels knows he will find a sympathetic ear in the Oval Office for his illegal gun control scheme,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Like Barack Obama, Mayor Nickels is an opponent of legal concealed carry, and he desperately wants the authority to unilaterally ban the lawful carrying of firearms on public property, regardless of state law and the state and federal constitutional protections of the right to keep and bear arms.
“Nickels may be inspired by Obama’s current ability to push a social agenda,” he observed. “Both seem to believe they have some imperial mandate to shape the world by executive order with no legislative oversight or intervention. The United States is a Republic, not a socialist monarchy, and the City of Seattle is not Greg Nickels’ personal fiefdom.”
Mayor Nickels has been threatening to ban all legally-carried firearms from all city property, despite warnings from State Attorney General Rob McKenna that he is prohibited from doing so under the state’s long-standing model preemption law. CCRKBA, the Second Amendment Foundation and National Rifle Association are prepared to sue if Nickels carries out his threat.
“Greg Nickels and Barack Obama evidently don’t get it that American gun owners want to eliminate violent crime as much as they do,” Gottlieb noted. “However, pushing an agenda to disarm law-abiding citizens is not the way to accomplish that goal.
“Seattle’s anti-gun mayor should not use the Mayors’ Conference as a platform from which to carry on his irrational crusade against firearms civil rights,” he concluded, “in Seattle, at the White House or anywhere else.”

I’m a liberal (go ahead and get over the fact that there’s no reason for me to be ashamed of that). I’m also an Iraq veteran and a CWP holder here in SC. I carry a 1911 everywhere I can — every day. I do find Obama’s outlook on concealed carry disturbing, but I really don’t think he alone has the political capital to degrade degrade gun laws as they apply to concealed carry (even with a Democratic congress). More gun control is just not a largely popular idea, and Obama is intelligent enough to know that.
Yes, saddly most liberals are not ashamed of their socialist ideals. That is the problem with them. However you are bucking the trend by being pro 2-A. Probably more moderate than liberal … not that that is much better.
The fact is that we cannot get much more gun control in this country. Most states require state permission in direct violation of the second amendment and many weapons the government fears in the hands of the citizens because it would hinder their ability to control them are already highly regulated if not banned. Really the only step left is total gun control and the reaosn that Obama will not move forward with that is because he fears for his own life and knows that lots of angry citizens with guns are not to be triffled with. It’s not that he is intelligent so to say. It is that he just knows deep in the survivalist part of his brain exactly how dangerous that would be.
But given the oportunity you can bet your ass that liberals will push for more and more gun control.
