Michele Bachman Prompts Discussion Of Overblown Census

J.J. Jackson | June 19, 2009

Michele Bachmann (Minnesota Republican) is bringing to light a very important topic – the overblown data collection our government asks for every 10 years with the census. This is of course of great concern to the liberals in our government who think that they can do whatever they want whenever they want and for years have been using the constitutional function of the census to act beyond the powers of the Constitution.

Under Article I, Section II of the Constitution the Congress is only allowed to make an “Enumeration” of the citizenry every ten years. Of course as often happens with liberals, the definition of terms is often lost in the translation as they meander around hunting for power. The term enumeration specifically means to count or “to ascertain the number of” but Ms. Bachmann points out that the Census does much more:

Outspoken Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she’s so worried that information from next year’s national census will be abused that she will refuse to fill out anything more than the number of people in her household. In an interview Wednesday morning with The Washington Times “America’s Morning News,” Mrs. Bachmann, Minnesota Republican, said the questions have become “very intricate, very personal” and she also fears ACORN, the community organizing group that came under fire for its voter registration efforts last year, will be part of the Census Bureau’s door-to-door information collection efforts.

The U.S. Code provides for a $5,000 fine for refusal to answer any of the questions in the Census document. As is usual, this is what liberals do. They ignore their constitutional restrictions and then threaten to punish anyone that actually knows what the Constitution actually says and refuses to submit to their extra-constitutional requirements. In this case the Constitution only allows the government to count the people of the country. It does not, anywhere within its wording, give the government the right to ask a single question beyond this in the Census. That makes this part of the U.S. Code for all intents and purposes unconstitutional. Thus once again we are left with the reality of how far this country has slid.

Of course, the question as to whether or not you are even Constitutionally required to even answer the question of the enumeration is open to discussion as well. The Constitution only says that the government must take the Census every ten years; NOT that the people must answer to it. But liberals have done another end run around the Law of the Land and will use their unconstitutional laws to punish anyone that does not obey them – even if they are not required to. I still say that when they ask your “race” every person born in the United States should answer “Native America.” It’s true after all.

The question “what do I legally have to answer for the census next year” is about as hard to get a clear answer to as asking an overweight person how much they weigh.
All I wanted to know was what must be legally answered, didn’t ask what your political opinions are.
Can it be assumed that I can just give them the number of persons who live in my home? Can everyone or anyone agree that that is what the Constitution requires?
