Harley Davidson’s Selective Outrage

J.J. Jackson | June 13, 2009

There are many reasons I am glad that I don’t ride a Harley Davidson. Now I have another to add to my list. Seems that Harley Davidson has become very sensitive about any of their dealerships criticizing the daily stupidity of our current President. Erik Dunk, owner of Iron Block Harley Davidson, has learned just how sensitive HD can be when they ordered him to take down off his electronic billboard the following:

“Obama are you kidding? We’re not Muslim. You are not Christian.”

This was after Obama said the dumb statement that,”If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” No remember, this is the same man who has said that America is not a Christian nation even though there are many times more Christians in America than Muslims. Don’t try to figure his “logic” out because there is none. At one time the number of people practicing a religion doesn’t make us a nation of that religion and at another time it does. That is all you need to know.

A report from News 10 Now discusses how this all went down:

On Wednesday, Dunk told us he had no intention of removing the message. But a call later in the day from Harley Davidson’s main office about the franchise agreement changed that.

“Let’s say it was just me and Harley Davidson. I’d fight it tooth and nail because I wouldn’t really care what they did to me. The problem is I’ve got 20 to 30 people relying on me for their livelihoods,” said Dunk.

Now before you liberals get all in a huff, Dunk has criticized President Bush in the past to without so much as a peep from Harley Davidson. Of course Harley Davidson has the right to have terms prohibiting such messages in their contract and they do, but according to my sources, Harley Davidson was well aware of Dunk’s messages in the past and never complained to him nor threatened him as I am told they did on this occasion. Only now that Obama is his target apparently has HD had enough.

Looks like another Ameircan company has been scared into submission by the Messiah and the fear of his wrath should they be deemed to have stepped out of bounds. Needless to say I will certainly not be buying a Harley any time soon as though that was news to anyone who knows me and knows my preference in bikes which is that I prefer well constructed ones with a reasonable price tag rather than a price tag that reflects a concocted lifestyle.

Well i am a Harley owner, a Desert storm veteran and proud of both. Thank you for writing on this issue as i probably would have not heard about it otherwise. You know in the past Harley forgot who it was that made them what they are and they almost went under because of it. Although i personally believe that the dealer should have stayed out of politics to begin with, to be forced to take a sign down because a muslim was offended is just Anti-American. Sounds like its time once again to remind Harley that it is not wise to slap the hand that feeds you.

Harley is struggling these days because they produce bikes that are high maintenance and not as good as their competitor’s for the price and have high manufacturing costs. I sold my Harley two years ago and bought a Yahama V-Star for less than half the price of anything Harley could make. Great bike. The point is that Harley needs to worry about making bikes and not how their dealers promote their bikes and sell their bikes.

Looks like I made a good choice. Harley’s selective outrage here is absolutely disgusting.
