Gitmo detainee pleads not guilty in embassy bombs

UPDATED: NEW YORK (AP) — The first Guantanamo Bay detainee to be brought to the United States for trial has pleaded not guilty in two embassy bombings. Ahmed Ghailani (AKH’-med guh-LAH’-nee) entered the plea Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan. He was brought to the United States under heavy guard earlier in the day. Ghailani is charged with participating in the bombing of two U.S. embassies in Africa in August 1998. The bombings killed more than 224 people, including 12 Americans.
