Firing Letterman Would Be A Little Extreme
J.J. Jackson | June 15, 2009
Brian Kolb, New York State Assembly Minority Leader, is taking things a little bit too far. The Republican is calling on Les Moonves to fire David Letterman over the wholly inappropriate remarks about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter (Willow) being raped by a professional baseball player during a recent trip to New York. Letterman has since claimed that the joke was directed at Palin’s 18-year-old daughter – but an explanation about how he could be joking about someone not with Palin in New York has yet to be explained away
“As the proud father of a daughter, and as a husband, I wanted Mr. Moonves to hear from me directly about Mr. Letterman’s disparaging remarks,” Kolb said in a written statement.
“Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees — even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman — making demeaning and degrading comments about women.”
I really do not like political figures calling for people in private employment to be fired by their employers. Now, if Letterman had committed an actual crime rather than spouting the general stupidity that he is known for that would be another story. Just as I said that Don Imus should not have been fired, I also continue to believe that if CBS wants to continue to employ a low grade comic like Letterman who is not funny 95% of the time even with a full staff of joke writers at his disposal then let them. CBS knows this is what Letterman is about and they know his politics well. They have re upped his contract in the past knowing this and are certainly not shocked by it.
The way to get Letterman off the air because he is stupid and unfunny is not to pressure his bosses into firing him, it is to just not watch. If his audience drops to the point where they cannot sell enough advertising to pay him what he wants then he will go away naturally.

Letterman is a deranged slob- and his tired 1985 schtick’s about as funny as a train wreck. I say give Todd Palin five minutes alone with this creep- maybe then he’d get the hard education in moral clarity that he so obviously lacks.
And if Sarah Palin is SO silly and irrelevant, why the obsession?
Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- it’s not like it’s not obvious. She’s been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model… this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.
Go get em, Sarah- and don’t mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion-
