Another “Consensus” Shattered

J.J. Jackson | June 12, 2009

If you are one of those Americans that listens to any of the liberal media outlets and thinks you will get actual news from them, you probably think that Doctors and members of the medical profession across the country are four square behind President Obama’s quest to nationalize/socialize the health insurance system here in America. And while it is true that health insurance companies are at least quietly supportive of such plans because they look at them as a way to pawn off thousands of high risk patients that cost them rather than make them money each year, the fact is that doctors and medical professionals are generally against the plan.

And nothing illustrates this point better than the AMA’s stance against it:

WASHINGTON — As the health care debate heats up, the American Medical Association is letting Congress know that it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan, which President Obama and many other Democrats see as an essential element of legislation to remake the health care system.

The latest on President Obama, the new administration and other news from Washington and around the nation. Join the discussion.

The opposition, which comes as Mr. Obama prepares to address the powerful doctors’ group on Monday in Chicago, could be a major hurdle for advocates of a public insurance plan. The A.M.A., with about 250,000 members, is America’s largest physician organization.

While committed to the goal of affordable health insurance for all, the association had said in a general statement of principles that health services should be “provided through private markets, as they are currently.” It is now reacting, for the first time, to specific legislative proposals being drafted by Congress.

Yes, I know the talking points well. The left lead by President Obama claim that what they are doing is not socialized medicine. But this excuse only plays well with two groups of Americans; the ignorant and the moonbat left who actually think governments can create paradise on Earth. But socialism (and to socialize) means something very specific such as “governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods” and “society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state.”

What do we have with this ambitious plan for health care if not to control the distribution of goods as well as how they are produced under state control? Oh sure, they will sugar coat the situation by saying that they are just legislating how companies will operate and making sure that everyone gets coverage under some health insurance or another (something NOT required to get health care BTW). Sure sounds like government control and government distribution to me!

And do we really need another government entity for health care like Medicaid? A system that has doctors refusing patients with the government insurance because they are not compensated fairly for their work? Think about that.
