News Quickies: Georgetown, Gov. Perry, and the Mainstream Media

PUSILLANIMITY ON PARADE IN ACADEMIA: The prestigious, Catholic, Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Bill Clinton’s alma mater, decided to honor President Barack Hussein Obama, which was its right and privilege. Unlike another prestigious Catholic university, Notre Dame, GU didn’t extend an offer requesting him to speak at its commencement and accept an award. Instead, it one-upped Notre Dame by agreeing to conceal its religious heritage.

The president was scheduled to speak on Tuesday and requested the university “cover up all signs and symbols” at the venue, Gaston Hall. One of those signs was the letters, “IHS,” Latin for “In Hoc Signo,” or “In this sign,” one of the most iconic symbols in Catholicism for Jesus Christ. A GU spokesperson said that “it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context,” even though it was unprecedented: http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=46667.

One has to wonder who was being respected and who was being disrespected and is not the overall “context” in any Catholic institution Catholicism? Even Bill Clinton seemed to understand that we should render unto Caesar–or Obama–that which is Caesar’s–or Obama’s–and to God that which is God’s: http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=46667

IS SECESSION IS IN THE AIR?: Methinks Texas Governor Rick Perry wants to follow in former Texas Governor George W. Bush’s shoes, which is fine by me as long as he cleans off those shoes and restores them as true Republican conservative shoes and as long as his call for a free and independent Lone Star State is just political bluster and not serious policy.

Perry, speaking to a Tea Party rally in Austin, suggested that “Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that,” according to the Dallas Morning News: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D97J48IO2.html. Millions of Americans are indeed fed up with Washington’s and state tax and spend machinations which will burden our kids and grandkids with up to $38,000 each to pay for Obama’s schemes and his very “stringy” stimulus

Governor Perry’s most salient point was expressed in an earlier address in Austin when he invoked the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the most trashed amendment in our Bill of Rights. For those who may have forgotten the text, it reads, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” The federal government has long trampled on that amendment and if we are to survive as a free, consitutional republic secession of any state is not the solution. However, redress of citizen grievances with regard to that crucially important amendment is critical.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA ONCE AGAIN IS CAUGHT WITH ITS PANTS AND PANTIES DOWN: No thinking person ever thought that the drive-by, mainstream media would abide by traditional requisite of journalistic objectivity. However, when it came to coverage of the hundreds of national, peaceful, and constitutional protests in the form of Tax Day Tea Parties by concerned Americans, those mainstreamers once again proved how left stream they were.

Their usual modus operandi is to ignore news which reflects badly on Democrats and, lately, on the Obamassiah but the tea parties were just too big and too widespread to totally ignore. So they resorted to Plan B, not the morning after pill but “the diss pill.” That pill is what the mainstreamers feed to the public in the forms of the distortion, misrepresentation, prevarication pill.

Examples of the administration of that pill can be found here: http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=46647, here: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2009/03/08/tea-parties-what-tea-parties-predictably-established-media-coverage-tea-, and my favorite, where a CNN reporterette outs herself and her bias against conservatism: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/15/unreal-cnn-reporter-openly-contemptuous-of-tea-parties/.

In case anyone hasn’t noticed, our great country is in a severe pickle right now. We’ve survived worse but our survival in previous pickles came about when all Americans pulled together. This time around there are many institutions, politicians, and media people working to pull us apart, and they may be succeeding.
