President Barack Obama ran for office partially on the canard that the reputation of the United States had been hurt under President Bush and that we had become isolated from our allies. Of course the truth of the matter is that our reputation had only suffered with those nations that opted to keep kicking the can down the road for someone else to deal with (eerily similar to the what happened prior to WWII) and terrorist supporting states.
However Obama has done little the heal relations with countries of consequence. Sure he has hobnobbed with communist thugs like Chavez, et al and made the socialist left in Europe swoon but why does anyone care about what a bunch of people who keep trying failed economic principles care anyway? It would be like caring that a bank robber is inconvenienced by a bigger and better alarm system on the bank vault.
However Obama’s administration has really done little to improve relations with important countries like Canada. During the campaign he ticked off our northern neighbor by talking down NAFTA and blaming it for job losses here at home only to backtrack and tell Canada that he would not harm the agreement and was only posturing politically. Well, now his Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, who is completely unqualified for her post as are 95% of everyone in the Obama Administration, has gone done and pissed off the Canadians again by claiming the 9/11 hijackers came through loose Canadian border security.
The furor began when Napolitano was asked to clarify statements she had made about equal treatment for the Mexican and Canadian borders, despite the fact that a flood of illegal immigrants and a massive drug war are two serious issues on the southern border.
“Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn’t have a drug war going on, it didn’t have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year,” she said.
“Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it’s been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there.”
When asked if she was referring to the 9-11 terrorists, Napolitano added: “Not just those but others as well.”
Canada responded citing the US government’s own 9/11 report which Napolitano has never read despite being in charge of Homeland Security …
“Unfortunately, misconceptions arise on something as fundamental as where the 9-11 terrorists came from,” said Michael Wilson, Canada’s ambassador in Washington.
“As the 9-11 commission reported in 2004, all of the 9-11 terrorists arrived in the United States from outside North America. They flew to major U.S. airports. They entered the U.S. with documents issued by the United States government and no 9-11 terrorists came from Canada.”
Another day, another bungle and another ticked off ally.
I think I know what Obama is trying to do. It is simple and brilliant. His plan is to make our allies so pissed off at us that they will come full circle and fall in love with us. I know it doesn’t make any sense. But these are liberals we are talking about here after all.

All who were left scratching their heads when Obama chose this obedient toady to head Homeland Security now can get a handle on it: a serious appointee, focused upon real terrorist threats (not imaginary, partisan ones i.e. the TEA parties) -like, say, a Rudolph Giuliani- wouldn’t have been a willing collaborator in a sham report trashing US vets for shameful political purposes.
Napolitano’s qualification for this job was purely being a liberal Obama sycophant… certainly not any skills, insight, or ability.
Her recent statements on Canadian border security illustrate how incompetent and puzzled she really is- completely lacking the credentials to be in charge of protecting our country from the likes of Al Qaida.
Trouble is, the narcissist Obama needs to be surrounded by mindless drones to confirm his omnipotence and pollyanna world view. But such appointments as Napolitano and Panetta to vital national security posts are a show of weakness that will surely encourage terrorists and other rogue characters who see America as their enemy- no matter how hard Barack tries to schmooze them.
Sadly, anyone who expected The One to place the nation’s practical defense interests above those of his own political security and radical agenda simply hasn’t looked at how he got this far in the first place.
