Obama Caught With Pants Down As Caterpillar Contradicts Him

J.J. Jackson | February 14, 2009

Liberals are already scrambling to defend President Obama from the “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy” as the Messiah has once again been caught telling a little fib in an attempt to promote the 2009 Portacular and con people into accepting it. Jake Tapper, who I have criticized when what he says warrants such, reports on how when Barack Obama said that Caterpillar CEO praised the stimulus plan and that its passage would allow, “this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off,” he was not exactly telling the truth:

But after the president left the event, Owens said the exact opposite.

Asked if the stimulus package would be able to stop the 22,000 layoffs or not, Owens said, “I think realistically no. The truth is we’re going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again”

“It is going to take some time before that stimulus bill” means re-hiring, he said.

Owens supports the stimulus plan, but said it would take some time to have an impact on his industry and “is a little light on the heavy construction.”

Of course the left is saying that this statement:
“… if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off.” – Barack Obama

and this statement:
“I think realistically no. The truth is we’re going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again.” – Jim Owens, the CEO of Caterpillar, Inc.

are not contradictory.

Well, yeah … I guess if you think “realistically no” means “we will be able to rehire some of the folks that were just laid off,” I guess you could make that stretch. But for normal people with an actual grasp of the English language and reality no such parallel can be drawn.
