School Officials Violate First Amendment Because They Think They Can
J.J. Jackson | January 17, 2009
Yes, never underestimate what a liberal will believe is true and that they can get away with. Once again we see liberals telling citizens that they cannot pray in public places:
A federal judge has ordered the Santa Rosa County School District to stop promoting religion and prayer in the classroom and at school events.
AdvertisementU.S. District Court Judge Casey Rodgers ruled Friday after school officials admitted allegations in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.
The ACLU sued the district, Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and former Superintendent John Rogers on behalf of two unnamed Pace High students.
Rodgers’ order prohibits employees from:
n Promoting prayer at school-sponsored events, including graduation.
n Planning or financing religious baccalaureate services.
n Promoting religious beliefs to students in class or during school-sponsored events and activities.
n Holding school-sponsored events at churches.
I know that the Constitution is a mystery to liberals but it does clearly say that Congress nor the States or their agents can prohibit citizens (regardless of who may employ them) from practicing their religion. The Supreme Court has even upheld that just because someone is a teacher or a public official it does not mean that they shed their inalienable rights enshrined in the Constitutional.
As long as the students are not forced to prayer against their conscious there is no basis for this judge to make his harebrained ruling.
But the ACLU is not big on the truth and never has been:
“We are pleased with Friday’s decision, and we look forward to working with the defendants and the court to bring the School District in line permanently with the First Amendment,” said attorney James Stevenson of the Florida ACLU’s Northwest Regional office.
Of course they are pleased. They will not be happy until all vestiges of Christianity (they seem to like Islam though) are stripped from all public places and functions and replaced with the state approved religion of Atheism.
