Rangel Back To Reinstate The Draft In 2009

Despite all the moaning from the left about how it is really the evil Conservatives, Republicans and that vile man named George Bush that wants to reinstate the military draft, once again Mr. Charles Rangel (a Democrat) steps up to prove that, yes Virginia, it is really a liberal Democrat idea.

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) likely will introduce his controversial legislation to reinstate the draft again this year, but he will wait until after the economic stimulus package is passed.

Asked if he plans to introduce the legislation again in 2009, Rangel last week said, “Probably … yes. I don’t want to do anything this early to distract from the issue of the economic stimulus.”

Rangel’s military draft bill did create a distraction for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) soon after Democrats won control of Congress after the 2006 election.

In the wake of that historic victory, Pelosi said publicly that she did not support the draft and that the Democratic leadership would not back Rangel’s legislation. She also said Rangel’s legislation was not about reinstating the draft but was instead “a way to make a point” about social inequality.

Now make sure you stay on course through all that hot air! It’s enough to blow the Titanic off course. Yes, we often see politicians introduce legislation that they do not believe in right? So of course the excuse that Rangel’s bring back the military draft legislation is not really about bringing back the military draft. No. Perish the thought! It is really about “making a point” about “social inequality.” Huh? Oh, are we back to the old liberal canard that only poor, ignorant Americans sign up for the military then?

Way to slap our soldiers in the face again!

This is like saying Hitler wasn’t serious when he move to round up all the Jews and throw them into concentration camps and have them exterminated or me coming out in favor of a 90% income tax just to “make a point.”
