Stephen King – Another Idiot Who Insults Soldiers As Dumb
J.J. Jackson | November 19, 2008
Yes, I can prove it too! Noel Sheppard at News Busters reports that Stephen King apparently thinks that if you cannot read that you get, as John Kerry once said, “stuck in Iraq.”
I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright. So, that’s my little commercial for that. I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright. So, that’s my little commercial for that.
Oh, but it gets better. Mr. King does not deny the comments. Oh no. In fact according to “Ms. Mod” of stephenking.com, Mr. King has a response to his calling of soldiers essentially illiterate buffoons.
Steve asked me to post this reply:
“That a right-wing-blog would impugn my patriotism because I said children should learn to read, and could get better jobs by doing so, is beneath contempt. Noel Sheppard says, “Nice sentiment when the nation is at war, Stephen.” I guess he feels ignorance and illiteracy are OK when the country needs cannon-fodder. I guess he also feels that the war in Iraq has nationwide approval. Well, it doesn’t have mine. It is a waste of national resources. . . and that includes the youth and blood of the 4,000 American troops who have lost their lives there and for the tens of thousands who have been wounded. I live in a national guard town, and I support our troops, but I don’t support either the war or educational policies that limit the options of young men and women to any one career—military or otherwise. If you agree, find Sheppard on the internet, and send him an email: “Hi, Noel—Stephen King says to shut up and I agree.”
Note, that Mr. King never says he did not say, “I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright.” Instead he does what liberals moonbats always do. He impugns the character of the person reporting what he said and then making it sound like what he was saying was just attacking the concept of being at war in Iraq. But, again, that is not what he said. He said, “If you don’t [lean to read], then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq,” which is directly attacking the soldiers who, dare I say, are probably better at reading than Mr. King and dare I say much smarter too.
Even in his response he continues to call the members of the military essentially uneducated, “I don’t support either the war or educational policies that limit the options of young men and women to any one career—military or otherwise.” Ok, so read it. He said that people who are in the military have no other choice because of their poor education. The correlation is that people in the military are there because they are poorly educated. You cannot spin this any other way.
So what do we have here? More evidence that Stephen King, who I don’t even think is that good of a writer (his stories are terrible if you ask me but there is no accounting for lemmings and their taste), proving that he really doesn’t know very much about our soldiers and thinks that they are stupid because his legions of fans (again, I say unwarranted fans) give him a platform to spew such ignorance. I take that back. Mr. King is not ignorant. He’s dumber than he thinks the troops are because the facts are that our soldiers are quite smart and can, in fact, read.
But then again, what does he care? His fans adore him and he can do little, if any wrong in their eyes as long as he turns out a new low brow story every couple months. And as long as he does that he could murder a child on his doorstep and they would excuse him.
