Don’t Be Fooled – No Senator Knows What They Voted For

J.J. Jackson* | October 3, 2008

All those Senators that voted in favor of bailing out businesses that were failing because Congress coerced them into making bad loans (and we cannot have anything that Congress does ever fail right?) don’t have a clue what they voted for. The bill, like so much that comes out of Congress is a monster and none of them read the 451 pages front to back I guarantee you.

Once the Senate was finished adding sweeteners Wednesday to entice reluctant House Republicans to change their minds and vote for the bailout, the bill heading for passage had grown to 451 pages.

Pounds and pounds of honey were poured on this rotten egg to make it more palatable and, once again, our Senators swallowed it and betrayed our trust that they would actually uphold the Constitution.

Isn’t it great to know that it takes a modern Senator 451 pages to get something done when it only took our founding fathers a couple pages to set forth the concept of how good government works?
Apparently we’ve become too stupid to do things in such short order. Not that this bailout should have been done. We need to stop these hodgepodge bills and only have votes on clean bills on single topics. But then if we did that then these idiots couldn’t run adds against their opponents claiming that they voted against something in a bill filled with so much crap that it was the bill that was bad and not necessarily that item in particular.

Politics as usual in DC.

I think that every Senator and Representative should be required to read each bill page by page and then pass a written exam on the details before they should be allowed to vote.
