Oprah Now Won’t Use Show To Promote Candidates

Oprah Winfrey is over a barrel. She is now claiming that she will not use her show to promote Presidential (or vice-presidential) candidates as people have been asking for her to interview with Sarah Palin.

Oprah Winfrey, America’s favourite daytime TV star, has refused to have Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin as a guest on her talk show.

Winfrey, a prominent supporter of Democratic nominee Barack Obama, has been facing pressure from conservative commentators and pundits who say that Palin would be a perfect interview for her female-heavy audience.

Such an appearance would be a huge coup for the John McCain campaign. Palin, the party’s first female vice-presidential choice, is making a determined bid for women voters and frequently refers to herself as a ‘hockey mom’ who just happened to fall into politics.

But Winfrey, responding to rumours on conservative websites like the Drudge Report that her staff was divided on the issue, squashed the idea of an interview. ‘When I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates,’ she said in a statement.

But the FACT is she has had Barack Obama on her show! Let’s translate this statement shall we?

“I, Oprah Winfrey, openly support Barak Obama. I love him. I think he is great and you all should too! While I have a large female audience and talk a lot about women’s issues, I have now decided that even though Barack Obama has been on my show to promote himself that Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, will not be given a similar platform. I believe that no woman would be interested in hearing what an evil conservative like Palin, who is obviously a female impersonator, would have to say and do not want to hurt my man in the race this November even if I did think she had something of substance to add to the debate. So from here on out I will no longer be supporting candidates on my show – even though, once again I have had Obama on. THE OPRAH HAS SPOKEN! DO NOT QUESTION ME FURTHER!”
Basically, that is what she is saying but won’t come out and say directly.
