John McCain has “truth squads”. Barack Obama has “truth squads”. As much as I dislike both of these candidates it always interesting to see what each means by the term. So far here is what it seems to look like.

McCain’s “truth squads” are targeting valid lies being told about him and Sarah Palin or at least trying to spin things that fall into the gray area. That’s politics.

Obama’s “truth squads” however are targeting anyone that is targeting Obama and intimidating radios stations that either have guests on with well researched books and targeting those that run dare run commercials which highlight the fact that he has an unrepentant terrorist among his close friends, that he has sought to ban many types of guns and ammunition, etc.

His campaign has even apparently enlisted state employees and law enforcement officials in Missouri to carry out these plans.

To which Gov. Matt Blunt has responded:

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

Careful Gov. Blount. The left has a habit of bringing down the sickle and hammer on people that say such things once they have gotten enough power to do so.

Let me set another record straight. The Democrats are not the party of Jefferson. They do not believe in the concept of all men being created equal – words which Jefferson penned. They also did not believe in the abolition of slavery at the time where as Jefferson railed against that institution in the draft for the Declaration of Independence and also tried, at least once, to bring forth legislation to abolish the institution unsuccessfully. The Democrats have a history alright. But it isn’t the history they claim.

They are nothing but frauds and pretenders to the throne of Jefferson. But then again that is nothing new for liberals … they are generally just big frauds.

While Jefferson was not perfect but there are few, if any, Democrats today can carry his water.
