Jake Trapper Visits Moonbat Land And Is Welcomed
J.J. Jackson* | September 8, 2008
Now if this doesn’t beat all! Jake Trapper has about as absurd of a posting at CBS as it gets accusing the McCain camp of “Spreading Smears in the Name of Fighting Them.” This has to do with recent reports from the National Enquirer that Sarah Palin, McCain’s running mate, had an extramarital affair.
Mr. Trapper provides the style of reporting that CBS and the mainstream news has been famous for over the years – which is why their ratings continue to plummet.
He begins:
Did you read the National Enquirer this week?
I didn’t.
Why am I bringing it up?
Because I just got an e-mail about it from the McCain-Palin campaign.
“The smearing of the Palin family must end,” said McCain-Palin campaign manager Steve Schmidt in the statement. “The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer, insinuating that Gov. Palin” (something untrue) “are categorically false. It is a vicious lie. Gov. Palin is the most popular governor in the country. She is a proven leader, an accomplished executive, a champion for ethics reform, and a fighter against corruption. The efforts of the media and tabloids to destroy this fine and accomplished public servant are a disgrace. The American people will reject it. … Legal action will be considered with regard to this disgraceful smear.”
I didn’t even know such a story existed.
Well, maybe if you got your nose out from whomever’s ass you have it stuck up over there at the CBS news room you might have taken notice of this claim before you got the email! The implication here is that because Mr. Trapper was so utterly clueless as to not know about a story that the McCain camp must therefore be spreading these smears themselves?
Isn’t that sort of like saying that since you don’t know about Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and how it works that it must have been some sort of scam when someone else who is knowledgeable about it starts to discuss it with me?
His post rambles on in search of a coherent thought although never finding one. In conclusion he writes:
Some of the tactics the McCain campaign is using could certainly be seen as spreading rumors in the name of fighting them.
But once again, I remind the reader that indeed the National Enquirers claims were already out there! Spreading a rumor means promoting it. The McCain camp did nothing to promote this rumor. They have only categorically denied it! Words mean things Mr. Trapper.
And thus Jake Trapper made a visit to moonbat land and the moonbats embraced him (read some of the comments to his posting to see this).
So now let us have a little bit of a more serious discussion on this issue of the alleged affair than Mr. Trapper and his adoring fans are apparently capable of. The National Enquirer is rather full of itself after the John Edwards affair was finally proven true. It should be noted that there was mountains of evidence for that claim however and years of research to back it up even before he finally admitted it.
The rumors of an affair involving Sarah Palin are much more shaky. And the response by the National Enquirer sounds rather childish. As reported by Drudge:
“The National Enquirer’s coverage of a vicious war within Sarah Palin’s extended family includes several newsworthy revelations, including the resulting incredible charge of an affair plus details of family strife when the Governor’s daughter revealed her pregnancy. Following our John Edwards’ exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign’s vetting process. Despite the McCain camp’s attempts to control press coverage they find unfavorable, The Enquirer will continue to pursue news on both sides of the political spectrum.”
Gee, “family strife” when parents find out their daughter was dumb enough to get pregnant? Ya think so? How absolutely unheard of and groundbreaking! Did my sarcasm properly show through there?
What do people expect the result of such a situation to be? Ignore it, say, “Oh isn’t that nice dear!” and have a nice dinner while talking about hunting caribou in the morning?
Sheesh!
But this statement is the one that takes the cake:
“… our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign’s vetting process.”
This of course assumes that they are not wrong. If they are then the opposite would be true and they would have egg on their face.
Now, if it is true that she had an affair then Palin’s career is going to die as quickly as it began – unless she switches party affiliation to Democrat of course! But the National Enquirer also has a track record of getting things wrong over their long and … well … long tenure reporting on this and that. There is a reason why it was sold on racks next to the Weekly World News and stories about giant space squids heading for Earth, Dick Cheney being a robot, Hillary Clinton adopting alien babies and Bigfoot running around impregnating women in the American North West.
