Democrat Led House Passes Welfare For Automakers

Proving once again that the liberal lead House is not above spending tax payer dollars to bail out people who have made unsound financial decisions, Pelosi and company have given the green light to a $25 billion welfare package to automakers:

The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a $25bn package of low-cost loans to help hard-pressed carmakers and their suppliers finance plant modernisation at a time of restricted access to public capital ¬markets.

The automotive loans are separate from the proposed $700bn bail-out for the banking sector, which is still being debated in Congress. The House approved the measure 370-58, setting the stage for Senate approval within days.

Why? Well of course because it is an election year! And liberals are out to by votes in key states:

The industry’s case has been helped by the fact that Michigan and Ohio, the two states most dependent on the car industry, are key swing states in the November 4 presidential election.

Executives of General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler and their suppliers have lobbied heavily for the loans. Both presidential ¬candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama, have expressed support.

Ah yes, the magical money tree apparently has blossomed again this year and liberals have harvested the cash. What? You don’t believe that there is a magical money tree? Be careful … that’s dangerous talk that the left will have to punish you for!

Notice that it was GM, Ford and Chrysler that lobbied for these loans. What about manufacturers like Honda and Hyundai who build many of their cars here in the states too? Why didn’t they need the bailout?

Instead of letting failed businesses fail, we apparently are content to keep spending tax payer dollars to prop them up. From each according to his means to each according to his needs comrades! And isn’t it great that government gets to decide what everyone “needs?”
