The Paranoid Bear Continues …

Russia, the paranoid bear, continues to wonder what went so wrong after its attack on Georgia, which left the Soviet Union years ago, which was supposed to show the former Soviet block countries who was the boss. Countries from Georgia to the Ukraine have defied repeated attempts over the years by Russia to bully them (often over energy supplies) and now they are uniting even more strongly against their former unkind master.
Poland’s agreement to a missile defense system has drawn further rambling threats from the paranoid bear:
MOSCOW - A top Russian general said Friday that Poland’s agreement to accept a U.S. missile interceptor base exposes the ex-communist nation to attack, possibly by nuclear weapons, the Interfax news agency reported.
The statement by Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn is the strongest threat that Russia has issued against the plans to put missile defense elements in former Soviet satellite nations.
Poland and the United States on Thursday signed a deal for Poland to accept a missile interceptor base as part of a system the United States says is aimed at blocking attacks by rogue nations. Moscow, however, feels it is aimed at Russia’s missile force.
“Poland, by deploying (the system) is exposing itself to a strike — 100 percent,” Nogovitsyn, the deputy chief of staff, was quoted as saying.
He added, in clear reference to the agreement, that Russia’s military doctrine sanctions the use of nuclear weapons “against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons if they in some way help them.” Nogovitsyn that would include elements of strategic deterrence systems, he said, according to Interfax.
Russia’s current actions are sad considering that they could be a great nation if they would just embrace liberty and freedom and stop trying to be a bully. Their vast oil reserves have them flush with cash that they could have only hoped for while they were a full fledged communist state. Instead they are worried that anyone and everyone is out to get them and have proven they are not beyond using military force to ensure that their neighbors will understand that they are still the big boy on the block.
These threats cannot be taken lightly.
