Americans Saying “Screw You” To Troops
J.J. Jackson | August 2, 2008
It’s Vietnam all over again. At least if you believe the latest Rasmussen poll where the American public would rather pull American soldiers out of Iraq than make sure they have battle the day there:
Despite growing confidence that the U.S. and its allies are winning the war on terror, most Americans (52%) still believe it’s more important for the next president to bring the troops home from Iraq than win the war there.
A new Rasmussen Reports national survey finds that only 38% think winning is more important, while 10% are not sure.
Now that is a mighty “screw you” to the men and women that have been signing up willingly to serve in that theater and have spilled their blood, sweat and tears fighting with the Iraqis for a better future. I guess old habits die hard for many Americans – spitting on our soldiers and their sacrifices seems to be something we like to do.
You know what, bring them home. Then when your children have to fight the same battle in another twenty years don’t come crying to me!

Not surprising. We were attacked in 1941 and we reacted as one nation united against a common enemy; we won that war. All conflicts since had political roots, in which most Americans have little interest, and we have lost every one. It is not our task to spread democracy, it is not our task to be the planet’s policeman. It is our task to attend to our own affairs and allow others to do the same. If attacked, then we should respond quickly and completely, as in WWII. We were once a rich and powerful nation; now we are weak and drowning in debt, for which we can thank both major political parties.
I feel compelled to comment on the previous comment.
This is a typical, non conservative, non libertarian attitude. Inalienable rights are for all mankind, not just those strong enough to take them for themselves. It is a good thing the founding fathers did not hold to such a silly sense of how people should help others and thank goodness neither did France because we needed their help to secure our own liberty. Thank God there were people at the time that actually believed that it was right and proper for people to help other people who could not entirely help themselves.
As for somehow claiming that WWII did not have political roots I would suggest a more thorough reading of the causes of WWII. The root cause of that war was precisely because some political ideologies (NAZISM & Fascism) were in conflict with other political ideologies such as communism in Russia, and the political leaders of France and England.
It is a shallow reading of history indeed to attempt to whitewash these events in order to portray history falsely.
