Obama: I’ll Be President For ‘The Next 8 to 10 Years’?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the reputed “Constitutional scholar,” just today said on CBS’s Face the Nation that he went to Iraq to talk to important leader that he expects to be “dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.” So, does this “Constitutional scholar” not realize that there is this little thing called the 22nd Amendment that holds a president to only two, four year terms? Um, that would be a grand total of only 8 years, Barack, not 8 to 10. Of course, the big question is, will we see this idiot gaffe race through the MSM as it would if a Republican had said it?
At the very least ABC’s Jake Tapper, one of the best political reporters in the biz, sure noticed. Tapper has a blog entry on his “Political Punch” blog all about it with an amusing side note about time travel added in just for fun.
Today on CBS’s Face the Nation, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in Afghanistan, told the paparazzi-pursued correspondent Lara Logan that “the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.
Tapper zings the presumptuous nominee a good one.
The notion that Obama will be dealing with world leaders for eighjt-to-ten years, possibly up through July 2018, suggests that either (a) he believes that not only will he be elected and re-elected, but the 22nd amendment will be repealed and he will be elected for a third term, OR (b) he was speaking casually and just meant two terms.
Tapper goes on to zing Obama several more times before this entry is done.
But, why is it that Tapper is seemingly the only denizen of the MSM ever willing to bring out these stories? Why does the MSM so constantly give the Obamessiah a pass? I’ll bet you can say why.
But here is a real point to ponder. What if John McCain had said he’d be president for the next 10 years? Wouldn’t the press and every late night comedian gin up the “he’s old and senile” jokes until those jokes would go through the country like wildfire?
Lastly, we have yet one more example of this man’s arrogance. He is beginning to carry on foreign policy before he even gets elected!
“And it’s important for me to have a relationship with them early, that I start listening to them now, getting a sense of what their interests and concerns are.”
You see, Barack, that is a president’s job! Have you been elected yet?
What do you think?

Lets see, 8 to 10 years for all 57 states, so thats 2 years for the 7 states??!! LOL!!
Obama never said he’d be President for 10 years. Dealing with people can extend past the end of a President’s term(s) in office. Just because nobody will take W’s calls when he leaves office in January 2009 is no reason to believe that life ceases upon leaving the White House.
If you’re really worried about candidate misstatements, how about this beauty from McCain on “Good Morning America” on July 21. When questioned about the seriousness of the situation in Pakistan, McCain replied: “We have a lot of work to do, and I’m afraid that it’s a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border.”
Exactly, Senator McCain. The first struggle will be to try to find the Iraq-Pakistan border, which doesn’t exist since the two countries don’t border on one another.
Maybe one of them is near Czechoslovakia, Senator McCain? You’ve been commenting how Russia has been hassling Czechoslovakia (twice last week) when Czechoslovakia hasn’t existed in 15 years.
And McCain can’t understand the difference between Sunnis and Shias, even when Joe Lieberman practically crawled inside McCain’s ear, trying to explain the difference.
Obama got an undergrad degree from Columbia University and a law degree, magna Cum Laude, from Harvard Law School. McCain finished 894 in a class of 899 at the Naval Academy.
Well someone certainly suffers from Bush Derangement Syndrome!
Your whole response is predicated on a faulty premise. That premise is that because in an article about Obama’s latest gaffe, McCain’s gaffes are not discussed that therefore McCain’s gaffes are not important. You are more than happy to believe that and you are also more than happy to play with that invisible pony in your backyard too.
As far as I am concerned Obama’s degrees don’t amount to spit because he is a dullard on almost every issue from economics to the Constitution. Almost every proposal out of his mouth violates some part of our founding document. So if you think that a piece of paper is what makes someone smart more power to you.
As for myself? I listen to what they say and judge their intelligence accordingly. And for Barack Obama that judgment is that his intelligence lags.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering. So therefor since I have two pieces of paper you should take my opinion seriously based solely on that.
My opinion:
Obama = nitwit
I see though that the shock troops have their orders and are out to hit the blogs discussing his latest misstep.
FYI diogenes you really should read this site before responding like this. In doing so you will notice that I have attacked McCain viciously over things he has said and done. But somehow I do not think that you are interested in the truth – just in defending your dog in the presidential fight.
The US is interesting in that international economics, politics, and diplomacy can be carried on between US states as much as between the US federal government and the federal government of a foreign country. I live not too far from the VA representation to Brussels. Obama plans to be in politics for a long time; I don’t think he’ll give up international relations even if he doesn’t get the Presidency.
So then, by this logic Barack Obama plans to resign from politics in 8 to 10 years since that is how long he said he planned on having relationships with these entities? Well, that is a start! Now if we can just get all the other liberals to place self imposed term limits upon themselves too!
If you’re so interested in the “truth” how come you start with a faulty premise: “Obama: I’ll Be President For ‘The Next 8 to 10 Years’ “?
Obama never said that. You (and others) are twisting his words into something he didn’t say, and then ridiculing him for being inaccurate. If he had said what you CLAIM he said, then he’s open to ridicule for saying something stupid. But that’s not what happened. he said something you didn’t LIKE, so you changed it into something stupid, and then had your field day.
You’r more than entitled to your opinion that Obama is a nitwit. But you don’t advance that cause by making stuff up. And it says nothing about the pieces of paper you collected in college.
Uh, now you are also a “nitwit” in my book. diogenes PLEASE look at my name. Then look at the name of the author. Notice anything?
Yep – they’re different. Now look at LP’s name. Notice that is different too?
Neither of us said what you claim we said, “how come you start with a faulty premise”.
As for the title the quote is accurate. It is logical to assume that is what he meant because Presidents are the ones that deal with foreign leaders and why say 8 to 10 years if he planned on dealing with them after he left office (if God forbid he gets elected)? Why limit it to 10 years? Is he only planning on dealing with foreign countries for two more years after his (again God forbid) term and then hiding in the mountains in a cabin never to be seen again?
But yet you seem unwilling to let a McCain misstatement go. What a double standard. So far you are the only one here that has said that one candidates gaffes should be excused while deriding another for his gaffes. Biased much?
Make sure you look at how the author used quotes to quote what Obama did indeed say and read beyond the heasline for an explanation of why his interpretation is valid. Might clear things upfor ya there sweetheart!
Don’t you know that the saviour can do know wrong? When he makes a gaffe it is only because of the vast right wing conspiracy!
He must be awfully tired you know from traveling to 7 states that don’t exist!
Course if his apostles would read the article and not just react to the headline they would find a reasoned response as to why the author made such a logical conclusion.
How refreshing! For the first time in his life, Barack Hussein Obama told the world the truth when he said, “uh….duh….that’s above my pay grade! Dahyuck…dahyuck….”
I can only surmise BO was referring to his ability to be President of the United States!
