PASADENA - It was a crime that shocked Alhambra residents.

On Wednesday, the case of little Sarah Chavez ended amid her mother’s tears and a 25-years-to-life sentence for Armando Abundis Sr., 35, the man convicted of causing the 2-year-old’s death nearly three years ago.

Abundis was convicted Feb.28 of assault on a child causing death, involuntary manslaughter and child abuse. But he was acquitted of second-degree murder.

Pasadena Superior Court Judge Teri Schwartz, who passed sentence on Abundis on Wednesday, called the case “tragic
