Leave our Anthem alone
Carolyn Hileman

It would seem that it has become very popular these days right around a major holiday celebrating America for someone, somewhere to decide we need a new rendition of our National Anthem, an Anthem by the way which has a rich and varied history and that has served our country since September 20, 1914 and was proclaimed our National Anthem by congress in 1931, we do not need a new one, while we recognize the struggles of the Blacks, the Latinos, the Cubans, the Hondurans, the Italians, the Croatians, the Iraqi’s, and any other group I am sure I forgot to mention. The simple fact of the matter is this is America and she has her very own song and we do not want it changed.

America has a vast amount of different cultures, different people and each group wants to change America just a little bit to make it their very own and while we understand that, you must also understand that once you make that oath you are an American, we are American and America already has a pledge, she already has a song. A song I might add that has brought tears to the eyes of former military and those who have just been away from home too long. This song that so many wish to change has been hummed or sang by service men and women when they were about to go into battle and it is as sacred as our flag, it is not just another song, that is not just a flag it is a part of every American and it is not something we take kindly to people trying to change.

You may sing about your hardships, you may sing them all you want but know this it will never take the place of our Nation Anthem and the people will stand in defense of it our flag and our pledge you cannot erase them, you cannot displace them they belong to us and we love them and we will be willing to fight for them, so sing your songs of hardship, sing your songs of wishes to make America something she is not but while you are singing those songs, try and remember that it was this country that gave you the right to sing it and leave our Anthem alone.
