Last time I posted the list of the Department of Labor’s spending on unconstitutional items we had one, solitary yummy brain try the same old defense that Hamilton’s view of an indefinite mandate under the “general Welfare” clause was a valid reason to not consider these items as unconstitutional. Unfortunately that has been debunked to high Heaven and back over and over again.
Saying that is like saying that because 6% of the public believes the moon landing was faked that therefore the moon landing was faked. Same thing with the founders. Because you have a few solitary voices like Hamilton’s saying something different than the rest does not mean their opinion is valid.
Someone apparently has never read the actual debate that went over the Constitution between those that liked the new Constitution and defended it as being limited as written (The Federalists) and those that demanded it be even more defined and limited (The anti-Federalists) with few ever arguing that the government needed broad, sweeping, perhaps even unlimited, powers.
So if anyone else wants to try to justify this spending as actually constitutional have at it!
But you will not get away with lies about what the founding fathers meant by the “general Welfare” clause so just be warned.
So sit back and celebrate the dependence of America on government. Happy Dependence Day everyone!
