Dumbest generation? I think not
Carolyn Hileman
It has always fallen to the generation before to make sure those avenues of education were available for the future generation and alas if we are to say that today’s generation is the dumbest, then we must say that yesterdays generation was the least motivated. It has always been the parent’s job to secure the money to provide for that education, that is unless you don’t work, you are here illegally or any myriad reasons that you cannot pay except that you have a job and just have way to many bills to pay, that is when the responsibility falls down on you. For you see for many years now the going phrase has been they are just not interested, then it went to they are just lazy, now the media and government officials can say just about anything they want about our kids and fear no repercussions.
But let us break this down a bit, who is teaching this dumb generation? Could it be that teachers rather than teach are regaling our kids with personal stories or to busy doing something else rather than teach? If a child does not know something it is because that child has not been taught that, or the teacher has not made it something they wish to learn. Take me for example, today I can write about History like a master and seldom have I been proven wrong, not bad for a c student in History and I can assure you my parents worried about the state of the nation when I was growing up. You learn what you want to learn, if it is important to you to know something you will find the information yourself and when you do it will stick with you. If you make a lesson valuable to a student that student will not only do it but will do it with such eagerness you will think that you are the worlds greatest teacher.
But what happens when they are ready to graduate and they know that unless they take out a loan or their parents mortgage their house there is no real chance for them to attend college? The media has turned most parents off to the military very few parents want to say yeah, my kid just signed up. Scholarships are for the best and brightest and few and far between, financial aid is only for those who make so little they cannot afford to pay taxes and those whose parents brought them here illegally, so where does that leave that child and why should he care about all the stuff you want to teach him when he is not going to need it to work at Burger King. Not one person ever drove up to a drive through window and said name the 31st president and I will pay for your college education, it doesn’t work that way.
The media, our leaders and just about everyone else are piling up on these kids and I think it is high time someone spoke up for them, Hell even the illegal immigrants find the time to say they are only doing the jobs our kids won’t do and yet not one single person will stand in their defense, until now. I will stand with them, the generation who has been cheated out of their rightful place in the world, the kids who didn’t get the benefit of the American excellence period but instead got what was left over after our government was finished trying to give the rest away. When you make an investment it does not make any sense what so ever to give the money to the competition in order to make your company better, but that is what America has done, we have given higher education to anyone from any country but our own and expected it to make us great, now the fruit of our labor is tainted, our children are of want and they had absolutely nothing to do with this mess we are in we did, dumbest generation? I think not.
