How much does gas need to cost before Congress undoes the harm done to the energy industry by opening up the energy reserves off limits in Alaska, off our shores and in our national parks? Carter first put ANWR off limits and Clinton stopped it again in 1995 before he placed huge oil shale reserves off limits in our national parks. No oil refinery has been built since 1975 due to regulatory barriers, and environmentalists fight expansion of existing refineries despite tremendous advances in emissions controls. The Democrats in the House continue to block oil exploration in U.S. coastal waters, knowing that other countries are tapping these energy resources off our shores. In November of 2006, House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi issued a press release touting the Democrats’ “common-sense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.” – results? Thank God cloture tabled the DOA Climate Security Act which threatened to raise energy costs while pursuing dubious climate change goals and undermining the American economy. Congress must repeal the 2006 ethanol subsidies as an ineffective disruption of the energy free market and rising food prices as an unintended consequence of this failed initiative. Gallup poll in May showed 57% of Americans wanted the U.S. to drill in coastal and wilderness areas, while the percentage of people fell to 20% who bought Pelosi’s line about price gouging.

The Mainstream Media has delivered a constant drumbeat of doom and gloom based on the premise that everything is bad and “change” is needed, solely to benefit the political left. The Mainstream Media has been very open in their biases criticizing supply side economics and refusing to acknowledge six years of uninterrupted growth, instead offering only criticism. Pundits who suffer from “Bush Derangement Syndrome” and blame everything from natural disasters to failed liberal programs on President Bush, should be pitied, not listened to!

With no experience of his own, Obama embraced the failed policies of President Jimmy Carter and now has expanded to include the failed “Great Society” domestic policies of President Lyndon Johnson. So far most of Obama’s rhetoric has been to whine about Bush policies and to offer vacuous promises of hope and change with no details to substantiate any real ideas. Obama has revealed early and often his plans to let the Bush tax cuts expire and then further increase taxes (higher income tax, capital gains taxes, dividend taxes, and tax hikes on small businesses) to pay for his expanded spending proposals. The one area Obama wants to cut spending is on national security by withdrawing troops from around the world and cutting weapon systems he knows little about and values even less. The last times that Presidents dramatically cut defense spending, it encouraged Soviet aggression under President Carter and emboldened terrorist attacks under President Clinton. Obama has also revealed his partisan approach to “defeat and retreat” in Iraq when he refuses to meet with General Petraeus, since he refuses to acknowledge changing realities in Iraq. Obama doesn’t like being called a liberal which is accurate since his ideas are closer to Marxism and communism which should be no surprise based on his intellectual mentors: Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky, William Ayers, and Bernadine Dohrn.

McCain has defined his platform as ‘Reform, Prosperity, and Peace” rejecting failed Bush programs, articulating poor Bush policies he would do better, and vowing to continue Bush successes. McCain has been very vocal about rejecting all earmarks, cutting government spending, and beginning the transition to personal accounts for health care and social security. McCain has also been critical of current performance on immigration, energy independence, pro-life and protection of traditional marriage and would seek to institutionalize his changes. McCain should promise to continue the Bush “Goldilocks” economic growth, historically low unemployment, low taxes, free trade driven prosperity, and safe from attack since 2001. The liberal Supreme Court Boudmediene v. Bush decision giving constitutional rights to terrorists highlights how important it is to have a Republican select future Supreme Court Justices.

Has anyone bothered to notice that the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Phase II Iraq Report substantiated all the reasons that President Bush cited as rationale for invading Iraq?

· Nuclear weapons program: “generally substantiated by intelligence community estimates.”

· Biological weapons, production capability and those infamous mobile laboratories: “substantiated by intelligence information.”

· Chemical weapons: “substantiated by intelligence information.”

· Weapons of Mass Destruction overall: “generally substantiated by intelligence information.”

· Delivery vehicles such as ballistic missiles: “generally substantiated by available intelligence.”

· Unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to deliver WMDs: “generally substantiated by intelligence information.”

· Iraq’s support for terrorist groups other than al-Qaeda: “substantiated by intelligence information.”

· Iraq provided safe haven for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and other terrorists with ties to al-Qaeda: “substantiated by the intelligence assessments.”

· Iraq’s contacts with al-Qaeda: “substantiated by intelligence information.”
