Testimony began Wednesday in the trial of a former Fairfield resident facing murder charges in connection with a head-on crash on Highway 12 that took the life of an Antioch man last year.
Defendant Isidro Pena Soto, 27, is charged with second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony drunken driving resulting in death or injury, possession of methamphetamine for sale and transporting methamphetamine stemming from a March 31, 2007, collision that took the life of Kent Boone, a 33-year-old father of five from Antioch.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Soto, believed to be an illegal alien, was driving 85 to 90 mph when the collision occurred on Highway 12 near the Rio Vista Junction.
