EL MONTE - Police arrested a school custodian Monday on suspicion of lewd acts with a child under 14, authorities said.

Pablo Rios Fregoso, 53, of El Monte, a custodian at La Primaria Elementary School, is suspected of fondling a third-grader, El Monte police Detective Ernie Cramer said.

La Primaria Elementary School principal Aileen La Corte said a female third-grader approached her during a recess period April 25 and reported she had been inappropriately touched.

“We began to conduct our investigation and it was reported to Child Protective Services and the El Monte Police Department,” La Corte said. “We immediately took action, as mandated by state law.”

Alan Morier, director of special projects for Mountain View School District, said Fregoso was put on paid administrative leave while the initial investigation was under way.

Due to his arrest, Fregoso will be placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
