POMONA - Police arrested a Pomona man after he stabbed his former girlfriend in the face and kidnapped her, police said.
Margel Lopez Jr., 28, was booked into jail at the Pomona Police Department on suspicion of kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. He was held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Pomona officers came to the 2400 block of Valley Boulevard at 4:45 a.m. Monday on a report of a family disturbance. The home was empty and unlocked, but blood was found on the floor and some furniture. Neighbors said they heard people arguing at the home earlier.
Police launched a search for a 25-year-old Pomona woman and her 1-year-old child. Lopez is the biological father, police said. Authorities from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the California Highway Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement worked with Pomona police to locate the victims.
Police spotted someone driving the woman’s car north of Ridgeway Street near Valley Boulevard at 9:20 a.m. When police approached the car after pulling over the driver, the driver sped away. After a short chase, the driver pulled over again. Police then arrested Lopez.
