RUBIDOUX – A man suspected of shooting his wife while traveling on the 60 Freeway on Friday fired the gun in front of his three children, sheriff’s officials said Sunday.
Juan Camacho, 31, who was later shot by Riverside County sheriff’s deputies when he pointed a handgun at them, has been booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. He was held on suspicion of violating parole, attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment and being a former felon in possession of a gun.
Sheriff’s officials released more details on the incident after they had the opportunity to interview Camacho in the hospital.
Camacho and Myra Becerra, 31, of West Covina were arguing while driving on the westbound 60 on Friday night. Camacho pulled out a gun and pointed it at Becerra, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies said.
During a struggle for the gun, Camacho shot Becerra in the stomach. The pair’s three children were inside the vehicle at the time. Deputies found the man on the property of a business in Rubidoux and ordered him to surrender. Camacho pulled out a handgun, and four deputies fired at him, wounding him, deputies said.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave.
