Cannon At Risk Of Getting Fired In Utah Primary
Carolyn Hileman - The Voice* | June 25, 2008 |
Utah Republicans are heading to the polls today to determine the fate of Rep. Chris Cannon (R-Utah), a six-term congressman who is facing the fight of his political career largely over his moderate-to-liberal position on immigration. Cannon’s predicament is not new for him: Since 2004, he has faced regular primary opposition from his right over his stance on border security, but has prevailed each time. But there are indications that the third time might not be the charm for Cannon. His Republican opponent, Jason Chaffetz, is a former chief of staff to Gov. Jon Huntsman and has shown more political savvy than Cannon’s previous primary rivals. And he has been criticizing Cannon for being soft on border security enforcement and for being out-of-touch with his constituency in and around Provo and Salt Lake City.

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. Keep this in mind as trolling is prohibited and will result in your comments not being approved and comments informing us how much we are a bunch of idiots because you say we are or espousing hate towards the truth are often moved directly to the official “I Hate You/You’re An Idiot” thread. Save us all the time and post there directly if you have a comment that would meet those criteria. Commenters reserve the right to mock claims about how liberal ideas, such as higher taxes, actually work and how conservative and right wingers, are NAZIs, racists, sexists, etc. and will do so with great regularity.
