Stimulus = No Impact Say Majority

Well, I wonder if liberals will listen to this poll since they like to stick their fingers in the wind and see how it is blowing before acting. That is the downfall of a populist agenda, but in this case it might be a good thing.
Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters nationwide say that the economic stimulus package passed earlier this year has had no impact on the economy. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 57% believe that if Congress and the President do nothing more, the economy will be in even worse shape a year from now.
So how to the American people think the President and Congress should act? Why – they think they should all get the heck out of our way!
While voters seem to want action from political leaders, 54% believe that the best thing the government can do is “get out of the way by reducing regulation and taxes.” Republicans overwhelmingly hold that view while Democrats are evenly divided—42% of Barack Obama’s party agree that the best economic policy is for the government to get out of the way while another 42% disagree. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 50% think the government should get out of the way and 32% disagree.
Again however I caution you on this. Most of those responding don’t want their government program of choice to be affected or “gotten out of the way”. Perish the thought. They want everyone else’s government loyalty payments to be cut, and their taxes lowered and regulation reduced only on them or those close to them. But the other guys? Eh, tax and regulate the heck out of them!
Doubt me? Watch the results this November as nowhere near 54% of Americans will vote for candidates that will cut spending, cut taxes and roll back socialism. And if they DO, it will only be because a candidate like Barack Obama becomes so unpalatable to them that they have no other choice. But the second taxes and spending are proposed to be scaled back their claws will come out. Especially if their programs are the ones under the knife.
