Californians concerned about immigration are less likely to support increases in public spending, early results from a study by a UC Riverside professor emeritus has found. Another study found that cities that have seen the biggest jump in immigrant population are most likely to adopt what are described as “restrictionist” immigration policies, even though only a fraction of a percent of U.S. municipalities have approved laws aimed at punishing undocumented immigrants. Results from those studies and several others — some of the findings were preliminary and unpublished — were presented Wednesday at a forum on immigration-related issues at UC Riverside… About 10 percent of Riverside County’s foreign-born population arrived from other counties in California — compared to only 1 percent in Los Angeles County…
