Ron Paul Still At It

If you thought that Ron Paul was not actively campaigning for President, think again. He is running ads in Pennsylvania complete with his “I’m Ron Paul and I approve this message” endorsement and recycling the same old lies, half truths, and convenient omissions that turned off true conservatives and libertarians during the primaries. For example, Ron Paul is STILL claiming that he has received more donations from members of the military than any other candidate. See my analysis of this claim here. It didn’t fly all those months ago and it doesn’t fly now either.

He also portrays himself as the great champion of the Constitution in these ads while conveniently forgetting to tell everyone that he actually sought unconstitutional spending for earmarks. See that discussion here.  And he has the gall to call himself “the taxpayer’s best friend”?

The problem is that those of us who are fed up with politicians who are liars, will trash the Constitution for their own betterment, and who actually think that because we’ve got our liberty screw everyone else are still waiting for a true conservative/libertarian to come along. And like all other pretenders, Ron Paul falls way short of that standard.

Jackson’s opinions in his commentary are very misleading. He even implies that Ron Paul is a liar and ‘will trash the Constitution for his own betterment’. Jackass, err, I mean Jackson, is influenced by Neo-Cons. Anyone who knows a little about Dr. Paul realize he IS the champion of the Constitution. He is a true statesman, one of the few with his honor intact.

  2. Lori on April 11th, 2008 8:21 pm

You Sir are the liar plain and simple. ! Wake up for the truth people Google Ron Paul! The conservatives ONLY choice!

  3. Ms. Peacock on April 11th, 2008 8:53 pm

People like these two are why I no longer support Paul. Jeff gives facts abd the paulbots can’t handle it so the respond like this. No facts. No substance.

  4. RedTornado on April 11th, 2008 8:59 pm

I hear ya P. They like.to talk about how anyone that isn’t drinking the Ron Paul kool aid is being ”misleading” yet don’t back it up. Meanwhile Jeff has posts that detail and back up what he says.

To quote a famous line, “they can’t handle the truth.”

  5. Colli on April 11th, 2008 10:53 pm

Mr. Jackson, don’t let those two “paulbots” as Peacock called them get to you. They don’t have any real arguments against the facts you provided and that is why they are acting like jerks.

“Neo-con”? Really Reeves? Get real. I’ve been reading this blog for about five months now and if there is one thing that Mr. Jackson isn’t it is a Neo-con or a Neo-con dupe.

I used to support Ron Paul. I used to think he was a great candidate. But thanks to Mr. Jackson he opened my eyes. Ron Paul might have some libertarian leanings but he is no libertarian.

Mr. Jackson on the other hand I have come to see as the real deal when it comes to libertarianism.

  6. LibertarianPrince (Moderator) on April 11th, 2008 11:06 pm

Here’s what I have come to realize about the paulbots.

First, they can’t confront facts about how Paul has requested earmarks for unconstitutional spending. We have the records on his own letterhead.

Second, they can’t confront facts about the military donations. We have records on that too.

Thirdly, they can’t handle the fact that Jeff is 1000x the libertarian Ron Paul is. This entire site is a tribute to that fact. Even the readers of his blog have overwhelmingly called him “libertarian” in the poll up on it.

And when you stack all of this together it just causes them to go bonkers. All we heard during the primaries was how surprised we were going to be because Ron Paul had gotten all this money and Ron Paul had all this online support. But when it came time to count the votes he barely registered thus lending even more credence to the widely held belief that most of his supporters were just the multiple personalities of his few and far between supporters.

Sorry fellas. You will just have to get over it.

Ron Paul: Earmark Abuses by Both Parties Need Reform
Published 04/11/2008 - 10:00 a.m. GMT (PressMediaWire) April 10, 2008 Congressman Ron Paul made the following statement - Madame Speaker, abuses of the earmark process by members of both parties demonstrate the need for reform. However earmarks are hardly the most serious problem facing this country. In fact, many, if not most of the problems with earmarks can be fixed by taking simple steps to bring greater transparency to the appropriations process. While I support reforms designed to shine greater sunlight on the process by which members seek earmarks, I fear that some of my colleagues have forgotten that the abuses of the earmarking process are a symptom of the problems with Washington, not the cause. The root of the problem is an out-of-control federal budget. I am also concerned that some reforms proposed by critics of earmarking undermine the separation of powers by eroding the constitutional role Congress plays in determining how federal funds are spent.

Contrary to popular belief, adding earmarks to a bill does not increase federal spending by even one penny. Spending levels for the appropriation bills are set before Congress adds a single earmark to a bill. The question of whether or not the way the money is spent is determined by earmarks or by another means does not effect the total amount of spending.

Since reforming, limiting, or even eliminating earmarks does nothing to reduce federal spending, I have regarded the battle over earmarks as a distraction from the real issue– the need to reduce the size of government. Recently, opponents of earmarks have embraced an approach to earmark reform that undermines the constitutional separation of powers by encouraging the president to issue an executive order authorizing federal agencies to disregard congressional earmarks placed in committee reports.

Since the president?s executive order would not reduce federal spending, the practical result of such an executive order would be to transfer power over the determination of how federal funds are spent from Congress to unelected federal bureaucrats. Since most earmarks are generated by requests from our constituents, including local elected officials, such as mayors, this executive order has the practical effect of limiting taxpayers? ability to influence the ways the federal government spends tax dollars.

Madame Speaker, the drafters of the Constitution gave Congress the powers of the purse because the drafters feared that allowing the branch of government charged with executing the laws to also write the federal budget would concentrate too much power in one branch of government. The founders correctly viewed the separation of law-making and law-enforcement powers as a vital safeguard of liberty. Whenever the president blatantly disregards orders from Congress as to how federal funds should be spent, he is undermining the constitutional separation of powers.

Congress has already all but ceded its authority to declare war to the executive branch. Now we are giving away our power of the purse. Madame Speaker, the logical conclusion of the arguments that it is somehow illegitimate for members of Congress to control the distribution of federal funds in their district is that Congress should only meet one week a year to appropriate a lump sum to be given to the president for him to allocate to the federal government as he sees fit.

Madame Speaker, all members should support efforts to bring greater transparency to the earmarking process. However, we must not allow earmarking reform to distract us from what should be our main priority–restricting federal spending by returning the government to its constitutional limitations. I also urge my colleagues not to allow the current hysteria over earmarks to justify further erosion of our constitutional authority to control the federal budget.

“Contrary to popular belief, adding earmarks to a bill does not increase federal spending by even one penny.”

Yes, I knew it would only be a matter of time before a Ron Paul supporter tried this argument again. However it has already been tried and deemed NOT to be a valid argument be cause the case against Ron Paul’s earmark requests has nothing to do with whether or not his requests added to the federal budget. The case against Ron Paul being a true Constitutionalist and libertarian has to do with the FACT that the money he requested via earmarks was for UNCONSTITUTIONAL purposes.

Please remember that in the future. The moderators here have already ruled against this argument being valid.

  9. EdgarPoe on April 12th, 2008 8:49 am

Dead nuts on Ron. I was a Ron Paul supporter until his earmark requests came to light. Those that I know who continued to support him after tried the same argument of how it didn’t increase spending so there was nothing wrong. That however is not the point!

If the government were to set aside $10,000,000,000 prebudget for the purpose of building ovens to burn Jews in wouldn’t make it right for a Congressman to request that one of them be built in his district! But that is what Ron Paul and the paulestinians are saying! They are saying that because the money is already set aside for earmarks requesting that it be spent on unconstitutional things is ok!

No, it is not. And it is not libertarian!

  10. Ron is the real deal on April 12th, 2008 9:26 am

Make no bones about it,Ron Paul is the only one that truly wants to defend the constitution. And knows how bad the fake fiat money is to inflation. And the fed govt has their hands in to many ppls lives, and they are also puppets for corporations. So if we cant get a real patriot in the white house, they will continue selling us out to cheap slave labor run by corporations.Get off your high horse and find a way to fix this country.Dont tear down people that want to fix it.

  11. anti commy on April 12th, 2008 9:33 am

Why do you ppl want to go down this socialism road, and let them continue to trash our constitution. If you cant see whats going on with the housing bubble 10 trillion in debt, open borders, war with iran for selling its oil in other currencies. The people that own the fed res.are the ones you want to keep your eye on.

  12. LibertarianPrince (Moderator) on April 12th, 2008 9:36 am

Don’t know who these “you ppl” you are referring to. None of the regular posters here or the commenter in this thread seem to be wanting to “go down” the “socialism road”.

Sure, we have some dillusional people in this thread who think Ron Paul is actually a good Constitutionalist, but they certainly aren’t commie supporters.

Ron is the real deal on April 12th, 2008 9:26 am

“Make no bones about it,Ron Paul is the only one that truly wants to defend the constitution.”

Which of course is why he makes requests spends tax payer dollars unconstitutionally. Yeah …riiiiiight.

“Dont tear down people that want to fix it.”

Don’t prop up people as libertarians and Constitutionalists who aren’t libertarians and Constitiutionalists because you are too drunk on Kool Aid to admit to the truth.

  14. PorterCall on April 12th, 2008 9:43 am

My God you paulites are pathetic. All you are doing is trying to kill the messenger. It isn’t Mr. Jackson’s fault Ron Paul doesn’t practice what he preaches. But you seem like you would rather have MR. Jackson lie and ignore the truth just not to offend your sensibilities.

The truth is the truth. You can either except it or continue looking like the gullible fools you are. For God’s sake people! He has shown you the evidence! And all you can do is claim he is a neo-con or ramble on about how Ron Paul is really the “real deal” even when the evidence shows otherwise!

  15. LibertarianPrince (Moderator) on April 12th, 2008 9:45 am

I should have checked first …

“anti commy” and “Ron is the real deal” are the same person. Well, another paulbot who can’t read the rules and who tried to post under multiple names to pathetically try and make it look like there are a ton of Ron Paul supporters out there.

Per the rules he/she/it is now banned.

  16. Ms. Peacock on April 12th, 2008 9:52 am

Pathetic. And you Paulites wonder why so many of us no longer support Ron Paul? Beyond Ron Paul himself, look in the mirror.

  17. TonyTMan on April 12th, 2008 10:08 am

The paulites act like I used to act when I was more liberal and didn’t have an answer to the facts. Scary.

  18. JangoFett on April 12th, 2008 11:10 am

Porter, you’re right. Anyone that would claim this blog is in the grip of the Neo-conservatives hasn’t read the blog and is just reacting to the bad news about the truth about their candidate.

Paulestinians tend to do this a lot. They only run into a post to blow themselves up and make false claims and recite the same old talkingpoints. That’s why they are generally treated with distaste wherever they go because they aren’t interested in being part of a community, only in defending their highly flawed candidate as the last, best hope for America. Which of course is not the case at all.

  19. PinguMama (Sr. Moderator) on April 12th, 2008 1:24 pm

I see Jeff has been poking the Paulbots with the facts again and getting the same typical, illogical, ill conceived, and substanceless responses. They are even worse than the Obamaites who will cheer at a sneeze from their savior.

  20. Toran on April 12th, 2008 4:58 pm

I used to expect more from Paul supporters. I thought they had principles and would hold their candidate accountable when he did things that were wrong.

After a while I realized that in their eyes Ron Paul could do no wrong. To them he was the Messiah much like Obama is the Messiah to so many liberals.

So I wrote them off my list of candidates I could support.

Now take J.J. for example. He has had both kind and unkind words to say about every candidate in the hunt. He has never been afraid from telling it like it is and saying the truth.

  21. Amber Callahan on April 13th, 2008 1:14 pm

Ron Paul is the latest pretender to the libertarian throne to try and convince the mindless that he is “the One”.
