Jimmy Carter Still Searching For Relevance
J.J. Jackson* | April 18, 2008
Former President Jimmy Carter is still trying to get over his reputation as a failure and running around the world playing diplomat. His latest attempt has been to try and sit down with Hamas and further his goal of weakening Israel and emboldening enemies of liberty. But, fortunately, Israel has denied him:
RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Former President Jimmy Carter, shunned by Israeli leaders over his plans to meet Hamas, said on Tuesday he sought permission to enter the Islamist-ruled Gaza Strip but was turned down.
Carter did not single out Israel by name for having turned down his request to visit Gaza, which Hamas seized in June after routing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s secular Fatah faction.
All of the border crossings between Israel and Gaza are controlled by the Jewish state. Egyptian forces are stationed at Gaza’s southern border, which is largely closed.
Why are liberals so enamored with talking to terrorists, dictators and thugs? Why? Because their moral compass is broken and to them evil is good and good is evil.

Does anyone really think that by standing back and throwing rocks at Jimmy Carter it will help any possibility of peace in the Middle East?
Has anyone considered what they will say about Carter if his mission bears fruit? Or are we locked in a negative mode?
Apparently Ben here is one of those Carter apologist who think we really can negotiate with people that want us dead and hasn’t studied history at all. I can make these claims by the utter lack of substance he presents in his comment. Carter has been talking to rogue nations for some time and walked away with agreements only to be stabbed in the back (see North Korea) but I am sure Ben feels that eventually Carter will find something to hang his hat on.
We are not “locked in a negative mode”. We are locked into reality. You don’t negotiate with terrorist and stab your friends, like Israel, in the back.
That’s insanity. It isn’t “negative”. It is just the truth.
You can either deal with it or keep on drinking the Kool Aid.
Jeff wrote a great article (read it here) which shows the complete idiocy of what Jimmy Carter and Ben would believe should be done.
In Ben’s world he must get really up in arms every time someone dares make a judgment and cast dispersions on dumb ideas like the ones carter keeps having.
Jimmy Carter’s track record of failures speaks for itself Ben. So unless you have something of substance to add, you might want to try a site more in line with your shallow excuses. Daily KOS would be a good fit for you I think.
Jeff often talks about how blind squirrels do often find a nut, and Carter is certainly overdo for finding his but he won’t find it anywhere near Hamas.
Sorry.

Have you ever considered a reality check?
Tell us Ben, what makes you feel that Carter’s efforts will bear fruit? What history do you rely on to make such an assumption?
VROOOOOOM! Drive by!
Uh, Jimmy Carter DID bring a lasting peace between Israel and Egypt, you bunch of shrill conservative lemmings. The guy did more for peace in the region in four short years than any president since has done.
By the way, did losing that special election in that deep red Louisiana district last night sting? Not any worse than the one you lost in Illinois, eh? Just wait till November; Americans have had it with obstructionist repugs in Congress.
John, you mean the “peace” in which Israel gave up land with it won fair and square after Egypt and other Arab states attacked Israel in 1948? Now there is something to be proud of! Carter’s legacy is having the loser of a war become the winner!
Then of course there was the Iranian hostage crisis where he was completed ignored.
You talk like Carter is the messiah instead of a failure as President.
Peacock, remember that liberals view sucess as undoing the results of wars inasmuch as the war was not a fellow traveler spreading left wing ideologies. As an example of this, remember it was the liberal Democrats that John loves who undid the Civil War and reinstituted oppression of black citizens. So logically they would praise as sucess Carter’s undoing of the Arab Isreali war and letting Egypt get a do over.
Don’t believe the hype. In John’s world the Middle East was a utopia before the vile Israel showed up and before Bush cme along.
