A man who allegedly raped a family member at knifepoint Sunday was arrested by Gilroy police when he returned to the scene of the crime.
After a five-hour search, Higinio Saavedra Perez, 39, was arrested on suspicion of raping a 16-year-old girl, Gilroy police announced today.
Around 4:10 p.m., police received reports that the girl had been sexually assaulted at knifepoint in a home in the 800 block of West Eighth Street. Officers located the girl, but Perez had left the scene in a 1995 maroon Chrysler Cirrus LX. The weapon was found at the crime scene, according to police.
Police issued a statewide all-points bulletin with Perez’s physical description and vehicle information. However, the search ended just after 9:30 p.m. when Perez returned to the residence and was arrested at gunpoint.
Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact Gilroy Police detective Madruga at (408) 846-0332. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call and leave information at (408) 846-0330.
