CCAGW Earmark Reform Pledge Gathering Steam
CAGW* | April 6, 2008
Last November, CCAGW unveiled its Earmark Reform Pledge, which features 10 principles designed to bring increased transparency and accountability to the spending process. Among those principles, the pledge asks that legislators fully disclose all earmarked funding or targeted tax benefit requests on their congressional websites; not request any earmarked funding or targeted tax benefit provision that does not serve a federal interest and/or have a federal nexus; not request any earmarked funding or targeted tax benefit provision directed toward a specific private entity that was not requested by an agency; and support legislation that would end the linkage between campaign contributions and earmarks. Recently, the pledge has begun to attract commitments from candidates for Congress, and so far, 15 congressional hopefuls from around the country have signed on.
