The Source Report: McCain-Romney

Note from Moderator: I’m flipping this from the private side to the public side of the site since Romney has just endorsed McCain.

Reports the Source:

It has come to my attention through two different confidants that there are forces within the GOP attempting to sway the McCain camp to picking Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as his running mate for the November election.

So far, I am told, this proposal has met with cold shoulders by those approached within the McCain campaign that have been approached. The theory is that Romney is just conservative enough to get conservatives that wouldn’t touch McCain with a 100 foot poll to vote for him.

However, part of the proposed deal is said to include a provision that if a McCain-Romney ticket won the White House that McCain would step down (presumably for health reasons considering his age) towards the end of his first term, allow Romney to ascend to the Presidency and run as an incumbent in 2012. According to one source the response was, “Screw you, John can win without those conservative votes.”

Once the primaries are over and head-to-head polling starts will be a telling time to see if that is indeed true. If McCain is able to handily beat either Obama or Clinton then there would be no need for him to accept such a deal. But if it is close or he is behind in the polls, those making the proposal believe it would become more palatable to John McCain who they think, “Wants to be President more than anything – even if for less than one term.”

Expect an announcement either today or tomorrow that Romney will be endorsing McCain.

FYI. Regardless if this is true or not, I still won’t vote for John McCain.

And for some reason the 56 comments already made didn’t follow? Hmmm… ok

Uh, probably for the same reason I told you in the past :D Because the private side is “private” the comments don’t get carried over because of the settings.

    Oh well, start over.

Well, considering I said that Romney would never endorse McCain I am glad the comments have been reset :)

Well, while I still find the whole “McCain will step down and let Romney run as the incumbent” stuff far fetched, I honestly didn’t think Romney would endorse McCain so quickly either and said so and am glad my comments were whisked away. Thanks Ron!

We’ll have to wait and see.
