Senator McCain Shirks Duty

Will Senator McCain still get paid while he is on the campaign trail and stumping for President even though he isn’t doing the job he was elected to do?

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican presidential candidate John McCain skipped a difficult Senate vote Wednesday on whether to make 20 million seniors and 250,000 disabled veterans eligible for rebate checks as part of a proposed economic stimulus package. The Arizona senator’s decision to miss the vote appeared to come at the last minute, after his plane had landed at Dulles International Airport outside Washington just before the proceedings opened on the Senate floor.

Ok, let’s call it like this is. John McCain has claimed he is a fiscal conservative and against government waste. But when a vote on an issue of whether or not people that didn’t pay income taxes should get an income tax rebate offers an opportunity to show his fiscally conservative bona fides, he runs and hides. He wouldn’t want to vote in favor of the measure and destroy his fiscally conservative facade and he certainly wouldn’t want to vote against it and piss off the entitlement mentality seniors in America. And he certainly wouldn’t want it to be said of him that he voted against income tax rebates for disabled veterans who didn’t pay income taxes.

So he just skipped the vote and the “Maverick” John McCain shows us his yellow streak. What a way to lead! Just avoid the tough decisions.

    Note from Moderator:

Wildly off topic. But nice campaign speech for Mccain. However this thread has a specific topic and you are asked to stick to it. Plus you were warned about posting links and advertising your sites previously. If you cannot follow the rules which are clearly posted such as:

“If you are trying to advertise your blog or site please be aware that any comment made with a link in it is automatically placed into the comment queue and will be deleted.”

    and

“Off topic comments are NOT allowed. If you think that you will comment on whatever floats your boat you will be banned. Comments must be on topic”

    Think again.

    Second and last warning Danny.

ROFL! What’s funny is how Amazon chose to link to ” Hard Call: The Art of Great Decisions by John McCain” with the content of this post! You talk about how he chickens out and I thought it was just hysterical!

Wow! Somebody else finally noticed this sort of thievery?? I’ve been ranting for years that members of congress should have their pay docked for every day they are absent while congres is in session. written senators and reps, even called secretary of the senate, and basically wasted my time…except for the satisfaction that at least I tried. In the early days, when there were just one or two corrupt members of congress, an absent member would VOLUNTARILY go to the respective secretary and request his pay be docked. So if you chide McCain, don’t forget the other senators, governors, etc.
