Reader Asks: How Is America Divided?
J.J. Jackson* | February 17, 2008
Fawn from St. Paul, Minnesota asks a very interesting question.
Mr. Jackson,
I’ve always wondered exactly how America breaks out politically. I don’t mean among party lines but along ideological lines. I figured you might be able to help me out with this considering you seem to be very focused on political happenings.
Thanks.
Excellent question and one that I get asked a lot believe it or not. Here is the way I see America based on my experience:
5% Hard core communists (we’re talking Soviet style communists or worse)
20% Hard core socialists (think NAZI party without the ovens and hatred of Jews but still quite fascist)
30% “Soft” socialists (people that don’t necessarily like socialism but like the socialism that they are benefiting from) aka “Moderates”.
20% Moderately Conservative/Libertarian (typically your Hamiltonians)
20% Very Conservative/Libertarian (typically your Madisonians & Jeffersonians)
5% Libertine or Anarchist (just generally your goofballs who don’t believe in anything other than survival of the fittest)
Now look at that and realize that you have 55% (75% if you include the big government Hamiltonian Conservatives) of Americans basically supporting socialism or worse. This is why we have problems in this country now-a-days.
Also consider that this is vastly different than the old days when America was founded where you had the vast majority of Americans in the Hamiltonian, Madisonian or Jeffersonian categories.
