RSSMinutemen continue presence in metro area

Illegal immigration must stop, Minuteman Civil Defense Corps Kansas and Missouri director Ed Hayes said at a recent public meeting.
The Minuteman group gathered at American Legion Dwight Cowles Post, 7500 W. 75th St., Overland Park, on Feb. 12 to discuss illegal immigration.
“This is not about color, race or any of that,” Hayes said. “This is about the rule of law and illegals.”
Former Kansas City Parks and Recreation Commissioner Frances Semler attended the meeting.
Hayes showed pictures from World War II of the beaches of Normandy, saying the soldiers fought for American security.
“I watch the History Channel frequently and I’ve watched clips of this soldier on the beach in Normandy and he must have fallen a thousand times,” Hayes said. “What he gave his life for wasn’t open borders in America. None of these guys gave their lives for open borders in America. They gave their life for the security of America and our freedom and not politicians that do not carry out their oath of office.”
About 40 people attended the meeting; some wore black hats with “Minute Man” stitched in white letters.
Hayes urged the group to study illegal immigration.
“You’ll be astonished at what you learn,” Hayes said.
Though the American Legion is not affiliated with the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Hayes said the groups have similar views on illegal immigration.
“Go to the American Legion Web site,” Hayes said “The American Legion put a book out, and the points in the book are the points I’m making tonight. I couldn’t believe it when I read it. It says seal the borders, national security, find and arrest landlords and employers who have hired or rent to illegals and English should be the only language.”
