Military should not face immigration bureaucracy

No matter what your take on immigration, it should be a no-brainer that members of the military should be put into the express lane when it comes to gaining citizenship.
The fact that some immigrant members of the military have been waiting years to gain citizenship status, due to bureaucratic delays, is shameful. But that’s what’s happening.

President Bush saw the need — and fairness — in speeding things up for immigrants in the military when he signed an executive order to speed things up for them. By the way, that was back in 2002.

These days, according to a report in The New York Times, immigration lawyers and politicians have heard about delays because of background checks, misplaced paper, and confusion about deployment, among other problems. Of course, there is an overall problem facing the immigration service, which has been overwhelmed with applications. And post-9-11 security measures have necessitated more thorough background checks that have slowed the process.
But plain and simple, immigrants in the military who are trying for citizenship should be put at the front of the line. And certainly there must be ways to cut the red tape for men and woman who are serving the country daily.

If they are putting their life on the line for a country they do not even have citizenship in we need to contact law makers and tell them to put them at the front of the line end of discussion….
