Michelle Obama Has Never Been Proud Of America?

J.J. Jackson | February 20, 2008

Until now?  Well, she said it and is now learning that lofty rhetoric can really come back to bite you in the proverbial ass. The problem with the entire Obama campaign is that it has been based on getting away with saying anything and having followers swoon at the words being spoken. The problem is that when you base your campaign on vacuous rhetoric, you will be called out on it.

Once again, a Democratic spouse is taking heat for comments on the campaign trail — and this time it isn’t Bill Clinton. It’s Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle, who is under fire from conservatives for saying in Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday: “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.”

She said she wasn’t just talking about her husband’s booming presidential run — it was more a statement on a trend she’s seen of Americans being “hungry for change.”

Opponents quickly seized on her newfound pride.

“I am proud of my country,” John McCain’s wife, Cindy, said at a campaign stop in Brookfield, Wis., Tuesday. “I don’t know if you heard those words earlier … but I am very proud of my country.”

During a follow up press conference, the Arizona senator was asked if they were responding to Michelle Obama and he deferred to his wife.

She responded: “I just wanted to make the statement that I have and always will be proud of my country.”

Yes yes, notice how when called out about her comments about never having been proud of America, before now, she reverts to the tried and true line about “change”? She knows she got caught.

Never before has she been proud of America? Was she not proud of how Republicans stood up to Democrats and fought a war to end slavery? Was she not proud when America united with other countries and fought back NAZI Germany and their murderous campaign? Was she not proud of how Republicans united and fought against Democrats to pass the Civil Rights Act? Was she not proud of America and our soldiers when they responded to a murderous regime out of Iraq who invaded their neighbor?

No? Now, only now, that she and her husband are potentially going to gain power is she “proud”? That says a great deal about what she thinks. American makes her proud when they are considering handing the reigns of government to her husband. That certainly doesn’t sound very American. And it is certainly not something to be proud of.

Typically of this genre, and this point of view, the quote is incomplete. I am disgusted with, not proud of, this tactic. Comments about Michelle being proud of WWII are clearly not relevant, and the last 40 years have given us little to be proud of. How petty is the example of this fake brouhaha? What it is is a fine example of the substance of the doctrinal conservative position. I hope it backfires flatulently in the faces of those who are trying to make it mean she’s never been proud of America, and don’t forget “Pride cometh before a fall”. Shame shame shame on you

Typical of liberals who have no substance, they whine and complain and hope that their whining and complaining will be taken as serious commentary. The quote is not incomplete. It is complete. There are no “…”s that denote condensation. She said it. She said that for the first time “in her adult life” (meaning since she has become an adult) she is proud of America. If the electors putting her husband on the cusp of being elected President is the first thing that she is proud of America doing then she is hollow and shallow.

You are going to have to deal with it and stop trying to spin your way to some sort of relevance.

No sir, shame on you. Shame on you.

I read it the same way as you do PinguMama; that since she has become an adult she has never seen anything about America to be proud of except her possible ascendancy to political power through her husband’s campaign. If this is the first thing that she is really proud of then watch out. Because nothing good can come from this.

I know the spin Bob is trying to put on it; that her comment only pertains to things that have happened during her adult life. But the quote does not read that way. It properly reads that since she has become an adult she has seen nothing in America (past or present) to be proud of. Unless we are to believe that she has never read or studied history since becoming an adult and found nothing in it of importance. In which case what good would her opinion on this matter be then?

Little to be proud of over the last 40 years? Standing up to Communism and taking bullets in a jungle while retards like Bob wet themselves, sucked their thumbs and read Karl Marx is “little” to be proud of I guess.

Way to just keep spitting on me and my fellow vets!

Some people just know how to piss off nearly every military man and woman that has served this county over the last 40 years in wars!

That and some people just have no perspective of history and of the greatness of America. Even with all the socialism we have to endure and may endure much more of if Barack Obama becomes president.

Yes, it is actually. It is a fine example of how conservatives actually can look at history and find many things to be proud of America for and not be generally embarrassed by their country.

Liberals? Well, America just upsets them and they can’t wait to destroy it. They are only proud whenever America foolishly lets them be in charge.

What Michelle Obama said was clear. She said that up until now (when her husband is about to be the DemocRAT nominee even though she denied it) she has not been proud of America.

    What utter crap.
