Local governments should enact illegal immigration laws, former Justice official says

A former Justice Department official said today that local governments should enact their own laws to address illegal immigration. Kris Kobach, who served as former U.S. attorney general John Ashcroft’s chief adviser on immigration and border security, said there are several areas in which states may pass laws, such as sanctions against employers who hire illegal immigrants, restricting access to secondary education, and not allowing undocumented immigrants to have driver licenses. Kobach spoke this morning to a gathering of the conservative Eagle Forum in Birmingham.
