Free Speech? Freedom Of Religion? Not Under IRS Rule

There are lots of reasons to fear the IRS and the government that empowers such an agency to put the nuts of private citizens through the wringer. But each election year we get the same old stories of how the IRS (created and funded by Congress) apparently is not subject to the same rules as Congress. You know, minor things like not being allowed to infringe on Freedom of Speech or Freedom of Religion:

BUENA PARK, Calif. (AP) - Southern Baptist pastor Wiley Drake said Wednesday that he is being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service for his endorsement of GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee in a press release written on church stationery.Under federal tax law, church officials may legally discuss politics, but they cannot endorse candidates or parties without putting their tax-exempt status at risk. Most who do so receive only a warning.

Drake, a prominent pastor in the Southern Baptist Convention, said he received a 14-page letter from the IRS on Feb. 7.

IRS spokesman Rafael Tulino said Wednesday that he could not comment.

Again, disclaimer – this is not an endorsement of Mike Huckabee (I feel dirty just saying his name). But when on Earth did we say that Congress could get around infringing on the First Amendment rights of citizens by creating an agency to do such? That’s sort of like hiring someone else to rob a bank for you or murder your spouse and then claim that you should not be held legally responsible isn’t it?

One of these days, the IRS is going to pick on the wrong person (or group) and there will be blood shed when they come to haul them away for practicing their God given rights.

And Americans have let it happen. Damn the liberals.

Maybe you aren’t familiar with the Seperation of Church and State. When a Church endorses a political candidate it breaches that contract. Ever heard of Thomas Jefferson? I’m sure he could explain it to you.

    First Amendment:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press”

Do I need to explain that to you? Because you, “Excuse Me?” seem like you don’t quite get it.

I know Thomas Jefferson very well. His exact quote which you are taking out of context is:

“Believing that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their Legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.” (Letter to the Danbury Baptists, 1802)

Now read that in context and you will clearly see that he was refering to government regulating what religion could say and how the people shall worship God and was in no way meaning that a preacher could not speak politically from the pulpit.

But then again, you were probably ejukated in de publik skhuls huh?

Hey, you know how it is LP. When you can’t win an argument on the facts, lie about the facts. It is why every liberal “utopia” fails - because they lie about basic facts.
