President Bush has only a few months left in office and he has apparently decided that leadership will not be something that he will be practicing over that time. Instead pandering will be the tactic he will use. First his temporary “stimulus” package which gives money to back to people that didn’t pay federal taxes while snubbing some who did and now this:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Bush administration, trying to deal with a worsening housing slump, announced a new initiative Tuesday aimed at helping homeowners about to lose their homes. For qualified homeowners, it will put the foreclosure process on hold for 30 days.Dubbed “Project Lifeline,” the new program will be available to people who have taken out all types of mortgages, not just the high-cost subprime loans that have been the focus on previous relief efforts.
The program was put together by six of the nation’s largest financial institutions, which service almost 50 percent of the nation’s mortgages.
These lenders say they will contact homeowners who are 90 or more days overdue on their monthly mortgage payments. They will be given the opportunity to put the foreclosure process on pause for 30 days while the lenders try to work out a way to make the mortgage more affordable to the homeowner.
Free markets? Personal responsibility? Not in George Bush’s America! Instead the nanny state will ride to the rescue and hold up people instead of letting them fall down and learn the hard lessons of their choices and become better for it.
We all know that there is that segment of America that will see the right remedy and that would see letting the market correct and let those that have more debt than they can afford go bankrupt and rebuild, as being “mean” and “cruel”. And those people seem to vote a lot. They don’t believe in America or understand the Constitution, but they still vote. So they get pandered to and they vote themselves everyone else’s money.
Is this a great country or what? Right now I’m leaning more towards the “or what”.
We need real leadership and not more political pandering.
