U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole met with Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson and other county officials Saturday to learn more about how the county processes immigrants through the 287(g) program.

Dole, R-N.C., toured the jail where immigrants are detained and spoke with deputies assigned to the federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. During a press conference in an ICE office Saturday, Dole said that she and her staff are in the process of gathering information from sheriffs across the state to see how ICE programs, such as 287(g) are working, and also to determine what the needs are in different counties.
