Bush Administration Chimes in on DC Gun Ban!

Your right to bear arms is under fire. It is no surprise that democrats want to put strict regulations and even ban firearms all together. In the past the Clinton Gun ban and the Brady Bill have attempted to infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of American citizens. But you could always count on Republican representatives to stand up against these infringements.

Recent events within the Bush administration have raised GOP eyebrows however. The Office of the Solicitor General has, on behalf of the Bush administration, submitted a brief to the Supreme Court in the controversial DC gun ban case. This case has come to the Supreme Court because of a law that prohibits the ownership and possession of hand guns in one’s home. These are firearms that would be purchased for the purpose of self-defense but Washington, DC law makers say that is not acceptable.

What is disturbing is that the Bush administration dropped the ball when it came to standing up for the rights of the American people and the supporters of the Republican Party. The brief in question downplays the importance of the Second Amendment refusing to say that it is a “fundamental right” for human beings to bear arms. It also does not directly stand up to the opposition. In this case, the Bush administration is suggesting to the Supreme Court that the case be retried in lower courts but with an adjusted view of the Second Amendment. The brief suggests that the Second Amendment should not have as much bearing on the outcome of the case.

At first glance it may seem that the Bush administration is supporting gun owners and attempting to get the case tried more fairly. But with further examination it can be clearly seen that the importance of this case is being shoved under the rug. What is more distressing is that this case has the potential to demean the value of the Second Amendment and therefore allow the federal, state, and local governments to greatly infringe upon or even completely eliminate the right of American citizens to bear arms.

This must not happen. No part of the constitution should ever be demeaned or infringed upon. The constitution is what protects the American citizens against a potentially tyrannical government. No compromise should be made when it comes to your rights as a human being and American citizen. You can make a difference by knowing where you stand. Let your voice be heard!

With the upcoming Presidential election at hand, issues like these are of utmost importance. Where our future leaders stand on this issue can make or break the future of America. When it comes time for the election do not forget to ask where the candidates stand on gun control. Cast your vote for those who support the constitution, freedom, and YOUR rights!
