Arrest warrant issued for man once deported in beating of a child

A Collier circuit judge issued an arrest warrant for a 25-year-old Immokalee man charged with beating his 5-year-old son for defecating in his pants for five days. Leonel Valdez Montes Sr. had been free on $10,000 bail and didn’t show up for court this past week, prompting Circuit Judge Elizabeth Krier to order his arrest and the forfeiture of his bond. The judge noted that he’d been personally served on Jan. 22 with a notice to appear in court and Assistant Public Defender Shannon Brown said she hadn’t received any letters or messages from her client.
