RTT News: Bush Will “Step Down”

I sometimes wonder if people that write about American politics know anything about out system of government. Take for example this article from rttnews.com with the title “Bush Hopeful Of A Middle East Peace Deal Before He Steps Down”.  I don’t know what the headline writer was going for, but to talk about President Bush “stepping down” after his second term ends sounds more like what you would be expecting a two bit, left wing tyrant to do after deciding to give up ruling with an iron fist.

Presidents in the United States don’t “step down”. The are elected in or out of office or, as in the case of Bush, serve as many terms as they are allowed. To say he is “stepping down” makes it sound so … I don’t know … Banana Republicish.

Stepping down is something that officials do before their terms end (like Supreme Court Justices that leave the bench while still breathing) and they decide to do something else or what dictators do after years of tyranny.

I know, I’m sure that there are tons of liberals who actually think that Bush is a tyrant anyways.
